The story so far

Twenty-five years ago I picked up a guitar and never quite put it down.

I trained at BIMM Brighton in partnership with the University of Sussex, then spent the next decade on the road and gaining experience recording in professional studios from Abbey Road to NRG in North Hollywood. I contributed to a UK Top 10 album and performed everywhere from Reading & Leeds to South by Southwest, Austin Texas.

Now I teach. Same instrument, different stage. Whether you're seven years in or seven minutes in, the goal is the same: to make playing feel like the most natural thing in the world.

2011–2014 — Brighton

BIMM

Music had hold on me from secondary school onwards. After years immersed in guitar, I left Yorkshire to train at the Brighton Institute of Modern Music in partnership with the University of Sussex, where a higher technical foundation was laid.

Stack of music theory books on a workstation

02

Technique & theory

Scales, modes, voicings, fingerstyle, hybrid picking. We'll demystify the bits that look intimidating on paper.

Tracking bass in the home studio with pedalboard and monitors

03

Studio & stage

Mic'ing up, recording at home, playing to clicks, in-ears, stage craft. The professional toolkit, taught by someone who's used it.

Open music theory book showing pentatonic scale charts, hand turning the page

04

Songwriting & arrangement

Turning ideas into songs. Structure, hooks, arrangement choices that make a track land, drawn from a decade of writing for a working band.
